Case Description
I am wondering if anyone can comment on the different Implant manufacturers and should I even think about choosing one or just go with what the doctor recommends. Here is my dilema -- some dentists (all specialities) say that they only use one kind of implant say a BioCare while others say they use a few and will use "what works for me". But even these folks do not use all implants available.
So the question is "is there a substantial difference between the implants from different manufacturers" and should I really care or worry that what may go in my mouth may not be the best for me. Say I go to a specialist who uses one kind and can make it work for me but this is not the best kind for me.
Thanks

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Dear Arun,Very interesting question...Implants are more or less the same regardless of the manufacturer. Typically, it is a Titanium Cylinder or screw that is available in different lengths, and diameters. Most specialists are familiar with one or two systems as it is quite costly to have a stock of several manufacturers. Usually, one or two system would be sufficient to cover the majority of patient needs, unless there is an unusual situation that would prevent to do so. I routinely recommend a CT Scan evaluation of the jaw(s) to insure that sufficient bone is present and to evaluate the proximity of vital structures such as the sinus and major nerves. The CT sCan is very critical in the planning phase and based on the results the implant size -and in some cases- the manufacturer are selected. Another important aspect is the versatility of the restorative options -ie the abutment and the crown on top of the implant- some manufacturer do not offer a customized option which would sometimes compromize the esthetic outcome. Nobelbiocare is one of the most widely used and it is quite verstile and allow us to customize the abutment and the crown. Otherwise, in my opinion if sufficient bone is present, the surgeon will use the longest and widest diameter as long as this is planed with the Prosthodontist -Restorative dentist-.Hope this answer some of your questions.Eyad Haidar DMD, CAGS in Prosthodontics

Each implant has its qualities, the best clinicians usually limit their use of implant system to one or two, the best two system, are Nobel Biocare, and Straumman ITI. The purity of implant material and the way the suface of the implant is treated makes one implant more superior to another. It also makes it more expensive as the quality of implant icreases. The longest studied and successfull implant is Nobel Biocare, which originally called Branemark implant.Overall if a detail and little thing does not matter to you, all implants are the same.Good Luck

I would agree with both replies that are posted here.My preference would be in the dentist performing the procedure. You must have total trust and feel comfortable with the dentist himself/herself.Best of luck!
