Case Description
5 crown bridge replaced 6months ago that has two congential missing teeth in the middle. The tooth next to my front tooth is a peg lateral with shallow root that now has a root canal &post. The eye tooth next to it has a root canal and post as well. I did not like the bridge from beginning because it was metal and appeared dark at the root but the dentist went ahead and placed the bridge on permanently since he said with two missing teeth I needed the stabitily of a mental bridge since a porcelain bridge would not be strong enough. four months after having the bridge on it fell off. When the dentist replaced the bridge he cleaned it and cut some of the metal around the top so it did look better. However ever since the replacement the peg lateral and eye teeth throb and my face is swollen. He has now put me on an antiboitic & said that if this does not work I need implants. I have spent $6,000 on this bridge. I feel as though the bite is now wrong & was compromised by the cleaning and cutting away & now the peg lateral and eye tooth feel as though they are being pulled away from the front. The peg lateral feels as though it is drainingas well. The bridge is now on permentently. Is there a way I tell if this bridge is leaking And what can I do to resolve this situation?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Hard to say without examination, but it seems your case is somehow complicated and you should be under a care of specialist, if you can find yourself a Board Certified Prosthodontist, you may solve 85% of your problems. If you are already under the care of BC-prosthodontist, then ask her/him to send you for second opinion to another BC-Prosthodontist. You can save yourself alot of pain and complication if you act ASAP.Good Luck

Dear patient, from your description, it sounds that one -or more- of the supporting teeth are infected, possibly as a result of contamination or worse, such as fracture of a supporting tooth. Peg laterals are usually not the best abutment to be used for supporting such a long span bridge. Also, if the bridge fell off only four months after the initial placement, then this is highly suggestive of more involved problems such as a bite issue or compromized supporting teeth, or simply, an ill-fitting bridge.Without a clnical and radiographic evaluation it would be dificult to make an accurate diagnosis to propose a treatment plan.Sincerely, Eyad Haidar DMD, CAGS in Prosthodontics

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I don''''t know who your dentist is but he or she did not want you to be unhappy with your bridge. You may want to talk with him/her and ask for a 2nd opinion. You have invested both time and money into your dental work and you should be happy with the reults/function. Work with your dentist to solve this.Good luck.
