Case Description
It has been 4 years since I last visited the dentist, as the last visit was a disaster. I had a filling, but was told at that time that I needed to replace all my bridges and when I said I could not afford to do that and was having no problems the dentist lost all interest in helping . I had been going to this practice for many years, (with a different dentist with whom I had a wonderful relationship) and had never missed a cleaning, and have had thousands of dollars worth of work done. I have now lost a filling, and a bridge has come loose. I need help asap, but am so afraid since my last awful experience. Can someone help?

Hello,I am sorry you had such a bad experience at your last dental visit! It sounds like you need to see someone that you can talk to like you could with your first dentist, who you trusted. It takes time to build such a relationship, but you can start with some small steps. Probably one or two consultations would be important to give you an idea of your dental situation. You can also evaluate your potential relationship with each professional during the consultation. Then, make sure you ask about all the options, financing, and outcomes of the treatments proposed. A family member or trusted friend can come along if you would like, in most cases, to validate your experience. Then go with your best choice. You will have control over the situation, and not be caught by surprise again. There are many new and exciting options for dental treatment that may be appropriate for you, so start your interviews and consultations soon, before your dental problems worsen. I am sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience! Developing a relationship with your dentist takes time but you must first have good communication, too. My philosophy for patient treatment is two fold. First, I approach each patient with the question: would I do this treatment on my mother? Secondly, I reccomend the optimal treatment to get my patients back into oral health and the patient can decide whether they want to move forward with that treament.
