It has been about ten years I believe since i had last seen a dentist. I have a fear of them and a horrible gag reflex which makes a visit extrememly uncomfortable for me. Now, since it has been so long, I have some major issues going on. Some broken teeth, a calcium deficency that started during my pregnancies that resulted in alot of decay, and repeated abcesses. Does anyone have any advice on where to start ? I am very self-concious at this point and would really need to see someone I would feel very comfortable with and at ease. Please help. Thanks!
FYI ..I am near Concord NH, but for some reason it wont let me choose NH as my metro area

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

First, the good news: 1/ you are not alone realizing your dentition needs major attention and 2/ there is hope because you posted this message on Dr. Oogle site.I would advise you to seek the evaluation of a prosthodontist -a dentist with three-year specialized training in restoring complex cases- who would be best able to coordinate the extensive care you need: browse the "Prosthodontists" section of Dr. Oogle site for an initial selection.A comprehensive examination and full mouth series of films is where you need to start to have a treatment plan established. Seek a second opinion to compare/contrast plans and meet another provider with whom you are to establish a long professional relationship.Best regards.

Hi Patient! I have recieved your Dr Oogle request for information. I am in Newton Mass so it may be a long drive. However, my reputation for excellence in cosmetic and restorative dentistry with a kind and gentle touch has current patients traveling from Manchester NH and Houlton Maine for comprehensive care. Check out my website at ultimateaesthetics.com for more info about me and my practice. If you are interested, I would invite you for a comprehensive evaluation where we would check all your teeth, your bite, and your jaw joints. We could take xrays and models during this trip, as well as photographs to allow me to create a personalized complete treatment plan to restore your mouth to health, function and beauty. Then we would treat you with a combination of gentle hands, and maybe some oral conscious sedation to assure your comfort. If that sounds good to you, give Wendy a call at 617 795 7170 and she will get you started. I hope to see you soon.Sincerely, Steve Bader, DMD

Hi,Dentistry has come a long way. Even in ten years! The most important thing is to find a dentist you are comfortable with and can communicate with. This means going out there and meeting some dentists (and their staff, for that matter). You need to have a consultation before you begin any treatment. This should involve a full mouth series of xrays and depending on the amount of work, study casts of your teeth. Incidentally, a gag reflex is no problem. My father has an awful one. It is easily remedied by having a benzocaine spray used to lightly numb the palate (sort of like a spray on chloroseptic, (for sore throats)).hope this helps.Dr. Whiteman

If you would like to come in for a free cosnult I would be happy to go over all your options. As far as the gag problem and extreme discomfort in the dental office we have a anesthesiologist in our office who could sedate you for any treatment needed. You would never even know you went to the dentist. Please feel free to email me any questions.best regards, Rich Miller DMD
