Case Description
My dentist has recommended that I have an extraction and a dental implant for a total cost of about $4600. This is for a tooth with an incomplete root canal. My symptom is gum infection. (i went for a consultation with an endodontist--who said that she could not guarantee that the tooth would support additional root canal work.) Is this cost reasonable for Cambridge?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

IF YOUR DENTIST IS A BOARD CERTIFIED SPECIALIST, THE FEE IS REASONABLE, IF SHE/HE IS NOT BOARD CERTIFIED, THEN IT IS WAY TOO MUCH..

Please make sure that your estimate includes the future restoration of the implant. Other wise, you may not be comparing apples to apples. If it includes both, the dental implant and the future rehabilitation, and they are both done by qualified specialists (specially the placement of the implant), then yes it is very reasonable.

I am assuming that this question regards tooth #3 rather than 3 teeth. I am also assuming that the estimate includes the crown restoration of the tooth. If my first assumption is correct then the estimate is somewhat hight, if no graft is needed. (A graft is needed if the sinus is low, and not enough bone is present to support the force of chewing by the new implant. A graft is also often used at the time of extraction to preserve the height and width of bone in the ridge). If the ridge preservation graft and/or a sinus elevation graft is required then it is more reasonable. If the crown restoration is not included (with no graft needed) then the estimate is very high. Board certification and experience of the implant specialist does influence the fees and presumably the quality of the service.
