Case Description
I need two new crowns and my dentist would charge $1 400 for each one ($2 800 total). He explained me that their is different qualities of crowns (and that seems to justify his price) : that the quality of lab work is a factor, the hability of the dentist to do the right adjustment etc. So, I am considering to take an insurance, Delta Dental PPO value plan, but I learned that he would not take it. I called an other dentist that was recommended by a friend, He would charge $1029 for crowns but would not thake the DD PPO Value Plan neither. It addition I was told that it may not be worted anyway. Now, I am confused, how can I be sure that the $1029 crown is as high quality than the $1400 one? We can only effeort the Delta Dental PPO Value Plan, is it worted to take that insurance and shop a for an other dentist who would take it? How can I know about the quality of its work and it's crowns ?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Thank you for your email. Dental insurance can be tricky to understand. First off, $1400 for a crown is the average rate for Cambridge, so I am not shocked by the price. When it comes to dental insurance and your questioning of quality, you have to ask yourself if you feel comfortable with the dentist that is treating you. If you are, then you know that they will stand behind their work. If you do not feel comfortable, you may want to look for another dentist. As for Delta PPO, we are not a participating provider for this plan. Good luck.

If you are happy with the treatment at your current dentist office I think it is worth the extra cost.you could ask your dentist''''s office to submit a pre estimate to the insurance as you may get re embersed for some of the cost. If you are not happy with your dentist , then searching for another dentist may be a reasonable thing to do. Finding a Prosthodontist that accepts your plan is another avenue. Prosthodontists are dentists with advanced training in crowns and restoration and replacement of teeth.
