Case Description
I am having moderate to severe pain on the left side of my jaw. I had my wisdom teeth out 6 months ago and had pain off and on for a few months which I considered just a normal side effect of the extraction. For about a month and half the pain and stiffness has gotten much worse and is not improving. I have constant pain and stiffness on left side. I can not make my teeth bite down on the left side, I can on the right side. I have to chew food on the left side only, chewing it on the right side (which is no the side I'm having a problem with) is too painful. I cannot fully open my mouth and I get tingling sensations in my jaw. I can also feel that my sinuses on the left side are effected. They are not painful but they feel different. I am planning to go back to my oral surgeon in a month when our new insurance kicks in. I'm wondering if someone can give me an idea of what is wrong. My gut feeling is that my jaw is dislocated. Thankyou so much. Heather

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

HeatherYou may complicate your condition by waiting. That will add to the cost of treatment.

Heather: I am sorry to hear of your problems. Have you returned to the oral surgeon to discuss your issues? It is now a bit on the long side for healing. It is possible that you have developed a TMJ problem that has in a small way ''''''''dislocated'''''''' a part of your jaw joint, the disc that makes everything work together. You should see someone who focuses in TMJ therapy. I am in Newton and about half my practice deals with TMJ problems and treatment. There are also a couple of practices closer to you that I am aware of. You are welcome to visit my website www.ultimateaesthetics.com or an informational referral site www.leadingdentists.com for more information on how I treat TMJ issues like yours. Good luck. Please feel free to call me for more information.
